Setbacks Are Normal Occurrences In Life’s Pursuits.

Setbacks are normal occurrences in life’s pursuits. They shouldn’t grind you to a halt. Zane Grey wrote, ‘These are the tests of greatness to bear up under loss, to fight the bitterness of defeat and the weakness of grief, to be a victor over anger, to smile when tears are close, to  resist disease and evil men and base instints, to hate hate and to love love, to go on when it would seem good to die, to seek ever the glory and the dream, to look up with unquenchable faith to something even more about to be. These things any can do to be great’.

One of the greatest human qualities is that of becoming unstoppable! How do you become unstoppable? Simply by refusing to quit, no matter what happens. The ideas is to resolve to turn every stumbling block into a stepping stone. Abraham Lincoln said, ‘Success is going from failure to failure, without losing your enthusiasm.’

Lincoln’s life exemplifies this great principle. He went from failure to failure, yet he refused to lose his enthusiasism until he finally won. He failed in business in 1831; lost a legislative election in 1832; lost his wife in 1835; suffered a nervous breakdown in 1836; and was defeated in two other elections in 1838 and 1840. In 1843 and 1848, Lincoln failed to win a slot in congress. He lost another election into the senate in 1850. In 1856, he lost the election that would made him the vice president of the United States.

Inspite of all these, Abraham Lincoln still was undaunted and unperturbed. He kept up his enthusiasism and kept on fighting. He contested eletion for presidency of the United States in 1860 and won. He became one of the best Presidents  America ever had. Marva Collins said, Determination and perseverance move the world; thinking that someone else will do it for you is a sure way to fail

To succeed in life, once you have started from the scratch, you must keep on scratching, no matter what. Don’t ever give up or stop.

  2. Life sure has many obstacles and I myself have had my share. I once heard a quote that really hit it with me. "When you change the way you look at things the things you look at change". I try to stay positive. Life is what you make of it so make life great! Wishing you all the best!

  4. Hi Adeyera! I love the Lincoln example. A couple of years ago, I watched "The Last Lecture" with Randy Pausch, the college professor who died of pancreatic cancer. He talked about brick walls that we hit in our pursuit of our dreams. They - as you said - are a normal part of life. And I love how Randy put it, they are often God's way of asking, "How much do you want it?"

    Thanks for sharing!
